OwnTakeHow OwnTake handles your information
OwnTake records and edits reaction videos on your device. It does not require an OwnTake account and has no developer-operated cloud media library, public social feed, advertising SDK or analytics SDK. Camera recording, editing, background removal and face-centering run on your device. The app does not automatically upload recordings or project files to us.
Information can leave your device when you browse the web, use Apple services, send feedback or choose to save or share a file. This policy explains those situations. A website or service you choose has its own privacy practices.
This website and hosting
This policy also covers visit.own-take.com. Ameen Esmail, based in Florida, United States, operates OwnTake and is responsible for personal information received through support and this website. You can contact the operator at support@own-take.com.
Cloudflare provides this website's hosting, content delivery and security. When you visit, Cloudflare processes technical request information, which can include your IP address, requested page, browser information and connection or security data, to deliver and protect the website. This website does not add advertising, behavioral analytics, contact forms or marketing cookies. Hosting or security features may process technical data or use necessary cookies. The mascot animation and other page assets are served from this site, rather than an embedded social or video platform. Cloudflare Privacy Policy
Selecting an email link opens your email application. Information is sent to us only when you choose to send your message. The feedback and privacy-request sections below apply to that correspondence.
Camera, microphone and selected media
With your permission, OwnTake uses the camera and microphone to record your reaction, surroundings and voice. It reads media and documents you select through the system picker, makes local working copies, and stores recordings, project titles, editing settings and exports in app storage. Original media may contain metadata supplied by its source.
Background removal uses Apple's on-device person segmentation. Optional face-centering detects a face's position to improve framing. These features do not identify you, create a face identity profile, build a face-template database, target advertising or upload images for model training. Face-position observations and segmentation masks are used for local processing. The original camera recording remains part of your editable project; removing the background from an export does not erase that original recording.
You can change camera, microphone and Photos permissions in your device's Settings. Denying a permission disables the features that need it. Selecting media with the system picker does not give OwnTake general access to your entire photo library.
Exporting and sharing
Export creates your finished video in OwnTake and presents destination choices. Save to Photos requests add-only Photos permission and adds the selected export to Photos. Save to Files opens the system document picker. Share opens the system share sheet. These actions are initiated by you; OwnTake does not automatically publish your videos.
If access is denied, saving fails or you cancel a destination, the export remains in OwnTake for you to retry. The app stores the export filename in its local project record to help avoid saving the same render to Photos twice. Your custom watermark text, if used, is visible in the finished video.
The recipient, app or storage provider you choose receives the shared file and any information or metadata included in it. Its privacy policy and retention choices then apply. Photos may sync to iCloud according to your Apple settings. Review recordings before sharing and manage those copies in the destination you chose.
Web mode and browser data
Web mode is an unrestricted in-app browser. Visiting a page contacts that website and its embedded services. They may receive your IP address, requests, browser information and information you enter, and may use cookies, advertising or other tracking under their own policies. Signing in to a website creates a relationship with that service, not an OwnTake account. OwnTake does not promise anonymous browsing or control third-party privacy practices. A site using an unencrypted HTTP connection does not provide the transport protection of HTTPS.
OwnTake stores browser history locally to support address suggestions. Suggestions use local history and the address or search text you enter; there are no built-in website shortcuts. Address-bar keystrokes are not sent to a remote suggestion service. Submitting a search sends the submitted query to DuckDuckGo. Opening an address or selecting a suggestion sends the resulting request to its destination. Searches and forms within a webpage follow that website's policies. DuckDuckGo Privacy Policy
WebKit can retain website data such as cookies and cache. Clear browser data in Settings removes OwnTake's saved browser history and the WebKit website data it manages, including cookies and cache, and can sign you out of sites. This does not delete videos, data retained by websites, or browser data in other apps.
Recording a webpage
When you initiate a Web recording and allow the system capture request, ReplayKit captures app-screen content and available app audio. OwnTake also records the reaction camera and microphone separately for the project. In takes started with Cutout or PiP, the overlay becomes part of the Web picture and cannot be moved independently afterward. New takes started with Split keep the recorded webpage pane as a separate crop for editing with the camera recording. Enlarging that pane later changes its framing; it does not recover webpage content outside the captured pane. Older Web takes retain the layout originally recorded. Voice and available website audio can be adjusted independently when editing.
The address field normally hides when recording begins. If you reveal it during recording, it may appear in the take. Visible webpages can include private messages, account information, form entries, search text or addresses. Avoid exposing information you do not want recorded. Protected audio or video may be unavailable for capture.
A limited script, isolated from the page's own scripts, temporarily remembers which page media elements were playing when you begin a recording and attempts to resume those elements after the capture prompt. It does not read sign-in values or media URLs, extract media for upload, send page data to an OwnTake server or bypass protected playback. A website may prevent automatic resuming.
Local storage and deletion
Projects remain locally until you delete them or delete the app. Local preferences include onboarding completion, camera and recording settings, custom watermark text and identifiers of projects counted toward the free export allowance. Deleting a project does not reset the allowance.
Delete a project from the library to remove its local project files. Working imports or unfinished recordings may exist outside a completed project; deleting the app removes its remaining local app data. Offloading an app is different and may retain documents. Deletion inside OwnTake does not remove copies saved to Photos or Files, previously shared copies, or device backups. Manage those copies in the relevant app or backup settings.
OwnTake has no cloud project backup or remote recovery service. Apple device backups may nevertheless include app data according to your settings. We cannot retrieve or remotely delete a recording kept only on your device.
Purchases
OwnTake uses Apple's StoreKit to retrieve subscription plans and localized prices, start purchases you authorize, restore purchases and check Pro access. Apple handles purchase and Apple Account information under its policies. The app receives StoreKit product and transaction information, including product identifiers, verification results, subscription status, expiration and revocation information.
Verified purchase information is processed on your device to provide Pro features. It is not sent to an OwnTake server. OwnTake does not receive your payment-card number or Apple Account password. Apple may provide developers with App Store sales, subscription and performance reports through its services. Those reports and Apple diagnostics are separate from automatic uploads by OwnTake. Feedback and optional diagnostics
The feedback option in Settings lets you describe an issue or suggestion. You choose whether to include a diagnostic report; this option is off by default. You can review the report before sharing. The app prepares a Mail message when available, or opens the system share sheet so you can choose a destination. Nothing is automatically sent to us. A Mail message being accepted for sending does not confirm delivery to our inbox. The app does not persist the feedback form as a saved project or upload it in the background.
If you send us feedback, we and our communication provider receive the content you send, your sender or reply address and any name or other information supplied by your chosen service. The optional diagnostic report includes app version, device model and operating system, capture mode and layout, output settings, source duration and playback state, camera readiness and format, and technical recording state or buffer counters. The generated report excludes website addresses, source filenames, images, audio and a persistent device identifier. Information you type yourself or attach through another service is additional to that report.
We use support information to respond, investigate problems and improve reliability. We keep it for as long as reasonably needed to resolve the request and maintain a relevant support history. Longer retention may be necessary for legal obligations, security investigations or disputes. You can request deletion through the privacy contact above, subject to those obligations. Communication providers may process or retain their copies under their own policies. Do not include passwords or sensitive content that is unnecessary to explain an issue.
Apple may independently handle device diagnostics, crash information and App Store services according to your settings. This app does not operate a background crash-reporting or behavioral-tracking service. If you choose to share diagnostics with Apple, Apple may make relevant app reports available to the developer under its service settings.
Your choices and privacy requests
You control device permissions, local project deletion, browser-data clearing, export destinations and whether to send feedback. We do not sell information received through OwnTake or use it for cross-app targeted advertising. This does not control advertising or tracking by websites you independently visit.
Depending on where you live and the information we hold, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability or an objection to processing, and to contact your local privacy regulator. Send a request to support@own-take.com. We may need enough information to verify that the request concerns you. We cannot access recordings stored only on your device or control records held independently by Apple, websites or your chosen recipients.
Where a legal basis is required, we use support information to provide assistance you request, pursue the legitimate interests of investigating faults and maintaining security, and meet applicable legal obligations. Optional submission gives you control over whether to send information; any legally required consent can be withdrawn without affecting earlier lawful processing. OwnTake is operated from the United States. Support correspondence and website request information may be processed in the United States and other countries where the relevant providers operate. Where required by applicable law, international transfers must use appropriate safeguards. You can contact us to ask about the safeguards applicable to information we hold about you.
Age and policy changes
OwnTake is intended for people aged 16 and over, subject to higher local requirements, and is not directed to children. App Store ratings may vary by region and operating system. Contact us if you believe a child has sent personal information that should be removed from our support records.
We will update this policy if our data practices change, including before adding accounts, cloud processing, analytics or social features. Material changes will carry an updated effective date and any notice or consent required by applicable law.
